480 ruger hunting

- I picked up a Super Redhawk 480 ruger with a 9-1/2" barrel last year for deer hunting. I settled in on a Penn Bullet 420gr Thunderhead bullet over a full charge of H110 (around 1100fps+/-). Recoil is there, but its a heavy push versus a hard snap of the 454/hot 45colt.

I may be moving to Colorado and was looking for a decent Bear gun. The .480 Ruger seems to be a lot of praise but looks like it's dying out.

When Ruger introduced the .480 in 2003 it was billed as a .475 Linebaugh “Special”, which admittedly misled people and their impressions of the cartridge. Capable of being fired in .475 chambers, the goal of Ruger was to balance bullet velocity with a heavy projectile to get one of the better big wheelgun calibers when it comes to recoil.

Hornady 480 Ruger 325 gr. XTP-Mag velocity 1,350 is almost same as CorBon 320gr-Hard Cast 480ruger velocity 1299. (this infro from the Shooting times Ruger collector's edition magazine, on sale now, it is great if your a Ruger fan as it goes in detail most of the Ruger Guns).

The .480 Ruger can be viewed as a ".475 Special", a downloaded version of the super-magnum cartridge, and in fact .480 Ruger rounds will fit and function in a .475 Linebaugh revolver, just as a .44 Special will fit and function in a .44 Magnum.

I have for sale a Ruger Super Redhawk in 480 Ruger caliber. This gun is a 6 shot revolver in what Ruger calls the "Target Grey" finish. Barrel length is 7.5". I also have the factory box will all accessories that came from the factory: Instruction manual, lock, fired case and scope rings. At this time the gun has Houge grips on it.
Nov 30, 2008 · I was doing some research on wheelguns at Ruger's site. Looked to me that any of their offerings in .480 were marked discontinued. Anywho, I received a Ruger 2008 catalogue in the mail yesterday and they have all kinds of information about the chambering.
The Ruger should therefore be considered very mild in this regard. When hunting large thinned skinned game the Ruger can be used with great success out to ranges of around 500 yards. But when hunting heavy game it is best to get very close. Versatility is a key word when considering the .375 bore.
